Indian Youth Congress
The largest democratic youth organisation in the world

Initially IYC was a department of Indian national congress from just after india got independence until the late 1960's.When Indira Gandhi became the prime minister, IYC got a new dimensional by making it as a frontal organization of the Congress Party.Its main objective is doing social works.

Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi was the first elected President of the Indian Youth Congress, later he became Minister of Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary affairs in the Indian cabinet. Narayan Dutt Tiwari was the first President.

In 1970's, under the leadership of Sanjay Gandhi,the IYC undertook several social activities like family planning,tree plantation, and fought against dowry deaths and domestic violence.After the death of Sanjay Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi took over in charge of the Indian Youth Congress. After he became prime minister in 1984, Rajiv Gandhi reduced the voting age to 18.Rajiv Gandhi also took India to a new direction in terms of technological and scientific development, telecommunications and the development of Information Technology.

The Indian Youth Congress has its headquarters in Delhi, and is presently headed by Rajiv Satav ,MLA from Kalamnuri in Maharashtra. There are 29 office bearers at the national level, followed by the state, district and block level. The Indian Youth Congress has a unit in all 8800 blocks of the country.
With a membership of over four million, the Indian Youth Congress is clearly becomes the largest organization for the youth of the world.
